About IIMSAM

The Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) is the only intergovernmental organization in the world exclusively mandated to promote Spirulina Platensis in the fight against malnutrition.

IIMSAM holds a unique status within the United Nations system. On 5 March 2003, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), through its decision 2003/212, officially granted observer status to IIMSAM, recognizing its work as an autonomous intergovernmental body.

This makes IIMSAM one of the few IGOs with a specialized mandate directly linked to nutrition, food security, and sustainable development.
